Being yourself: When I was Young

Being yourself: When I was Young

I was always doing crazy things when I was young, playing football with the boys in school or pretending to be a dog in class. My teacher would always write to my parents saying I am always pretending to be a dog in school and my parents didn't seem to bother so much in fact, they were laughing. They weren't making fun of me but it was a laugh that assured me that I was fine. I was a child with a child's mind, they don't care what people think.

From what I remember, I hardly fitted in with the other kids in school. I only started having friends when I was in primary three or four. Being yourself can be a weapon that can kill you but also a weapon that can bring your kindness and honesty towards others. I was in some ways shy, but also confident. I hated being the centre of the show but I also liked being a dog. I remember being under the table in one of my classes. My teacher saw me as a dog and I was so embarrassed. my teacher always reports my behaviour to my parents and they burst out laughing at me.

A child's mind is fun and creative. They don't care whether people like it or not. They just do it. When my father was teaching at home, the kids had to colour a picture and it was filled with beautiful and unique colouring and shapes. A child imagination is bright but the more kids grow, the more they care about what people think about their work. I do get it often, putting other people's opinion first and thinking it is bad even though it's your creative ideas that bring your uniqueness out. You put opinion over creativity.
