We discussed about the meaning of different shots. Here are some of the shots which we discussed.
Close up
When you do a close up, it gives the feeling of concern relating to the character. How the character is feeling.
Medium Shot
The medium shot shows how we view each other. AS humans, when talking to another person, we only focus half the body of the person you are talking with. This is where the medium shot comes in, you are relating how we see each other.
Another medium shot example is a medium long shot or a cow boy shot. The reason it is called a cowboy shot is because it is used a lot in Western films to show the action with the gun.
Full Body Shot
Long Shot/Wide Shot
When we do a long shot, it makes the audience wanting to know what is the characters are discussing.
Wide shot gives the audience information of where the scene is set.
For me personally, you can observe where the location is at in both long shot and wide shot. The difference is for me the wide shot focuses on where the location is and the long shot wants to make to audience to be willing to know what is the conversation between characters.
Extreme long shot
This shows the location as well as the subject of the scene.
Bird Eye Shot
Over The Shoulder Shot
This is sometimes used when characters are having a conversation. It can also show the location of the scene.
Be careful when using this angle because you have put the camera on the right side. If A is facing the camera, it should be on B's left shoulder. That also goes when the camera changes to focus on B.
Point of Views
I personally love this camera shot. You are placing the audience in to the characters shoes.
Single/ Two shot
Shot that there is one more two people in the scene.
To give the motion picture feeling when moving the camera, it has to be meaningful towards the scene. You have to think, what do you want the audience to feel, what is the purpose? Why am I shooting with a medium shot? These are the questions you have to ask yourself if you are making a film. When I made my short film, there was a scene where I am looking at the camera( Breaking the fourth wall). Showing the curiosity on my face.
